The government-owned company keeping Britain’s roads moving uses Thrive to power learning for every single traffic officer and office worker.
With on-demand learning, seamless onboarding, and real-time support, Thrive has transformed how National Highways empowers its office teams and 954 traffic officers — helping them stay compliant and confident on the road.

"The process support and service that you get from Thrive has been second to none. It's been such an easy process. We've got a brilliant Account Director in Eugene, a lovely CSM in Louise. Even if they're off, all I've got to do is raise a Zendesk ticket and I've never had to wait more than 24 hours for anything that I've asked to be resolved."

AboutNational Highways
National Highways operates, maintains, and improves England’s Strategic Road Network: 4,300 miles of motorways and major A-roads that keep the country connected. Alongside office-based teams, around 1,500 field-based colleagues patrol roads around the clock to keep journeys safe and flowing.

Driving learning across the country
When you’re responsible for keeping 4,300 miles of roads moving, every role matters — from the teams in head offices, to the 1,500 field-based colleagues patrolling the motorways day and night. But with such a diverse and dispersed workforce, National Highways faced a major challenge: how to make learning accessible to everyone, no matter where or when they worked.
They needed more than a traditional LMS. Training had to be flexible enough for shift patterns, traffic officers on mobile devices, and varying, unpredictable schedules. And with huge volumes of safety and compliance content to deliver, National Highways wanted a solution that didn’t just tick boxes, but actually helped people take learning into their own hands.

A smooth journey to smarter learning
With Thrive, learning at National Highways is more accessible than ever before. From day one, every new starter lands in Thrive to complete induction and explore what’s next. Traffic officers can jump in during downtime, using those spare minutes to learn or prepare for their next shift. What used to be a slog has transformed into something that people genuinely enjoy.
For some, Thrive has gone beyond building skills. After traffic officer Darren Ward sustained a career-changing injury, Thrive helped him retrain for a new role and rebuild his confidence. Through role-based training, plus content on imposter syndrome, stress, and mental health, he found the tools and mindset to start again.
Darren’s 61, starting a new chapter, and still discovering something new through Thrive — living proof that curiosity doesn’t retire.

Learning without roadblocks
Within the first month, 99% of accounts were activated; a figure that continues to hold strong even as new employees join. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with traffic officers in particular giving Thrive “a huge thumbs up” – while safely parked, of course. From new starters to seasoned pros like Darren, people are using Thrive to build skills and stay confident through change.
Behind the scenes, Thrive’s support has kept everything running smoothly. With a dedicated Account Director and CSM, Ian Morris calls the partnership “bostin!” (That’s Brummie slang for “wonderful”, “brilliant”, or “great”, to save you a Google.) From setup to day-to-day support, National Highways knows Thrive has their back, keeping every learner – and every journey – moving forward.
