Mentoring Chat Notifications
Thrive's chat notifications email people when a new message arrives while they're offline, keeping mentoring conversations moving without sharing message content.

Mentoring
Overview
In October 2026, Thrive released offline email notifications for chat. Chat notifications are privacy-first email alerts that tell people when a new message is waiting, without ever including what the message says. It keeps conversations moving, especially between mentors and mentees using Thrive's mentoring software.
What's new
- People who are offline now get an email when they receive new chat messages.
- The email names who the message came from and links straight to the conversation.
- The email never contains the message itself, so nothing sensitive lands in an inbox.
- One email per time away, not one per message.
Why / benefits
- Fewer missed conversations between mentors and mentees.
- Sensitive conversations stay inside the platform.
- Less inbox noise, with no repeat reminders.
- A direct link back to the conversation, which supports mentoring engagement.
How it works
- When a message arrives for someone who is offline, Thrive waits 15 minutes to see whether more messages arrive or they come back online.
- If they're still offline, they get a single email with the sender's name and a link to the conversation.
- If they come back online first, no email is sent.
- No further reminders are sent while they stay away.
Use cases
- A mentor messages a mentee late on a Friday. The mentee is away, so 15 minutes later they get an email and click straight through to reply.
- A colleague sends five messages in a row while someone is offline, and they get one email, not five.
People/personas
- Mentors and mentees who need to know a conversation is waiting.
- L&D leaders and HR teams who run mentoring programmes and care about participation and privacy.
