A new guided flow introduces app permissions one at a time on first install, explaining why each is needed.

Overview
Previously, permission requests fired all at once during the loading screen when someone first opened the Thrive mobile app, which could cause the app to freeze. This update introduces a cleaner permissions onboarding flow.
What's new
- A dedicated permissions screen shown to new users on fresh installs
- Each permission is presented individually with a plain-language explanation, covering push notifications, microphone, Face ID, camera and media library
- The screen only appears on first install, returning users are unaffected
Why / benefits
- Users understand why they are being asked for access, rather than facing a wall of pop-ups
- Clear context means users are more likely to grant permissions, keeping the full Thrive experience intact
- Removes a known cause of app instability during the initial loading phase
How it works
- A new user installs and opens the app, and is guided through a short permissions flow before the home screen loads
- Each permission is shown on its own screen with a short explanation, and can be accepted or declined individually
- Permissions declined during onboarding can still be granted later via device settings
Use cases
- A new user understands why the app is requesting microphone access, since Kiki, Thrive's AI agent, uses it for voice input, and grants it with confidence.
People/personas
- New users installing the Thrive mobile app for the first time
