Percentage-Based Pathway Completion
Admins can now set a completion threshold, so a pathway is marked complete once a set percentage of content is finished, not every item.

Pathways
Overview
Until now, a pathway was all or nothing, learners had to complete every content item and task to be marked complete. Pathways with optional or pick your own content never showed as complete, which broke reporting. Percentage-based completion introduces an admin-set threshold on how much content a learner must finish.
What's new
- A new pathway setting to complete the pathway once a percentage of content is finished
- Tasks stay mandatory, the percentage threshold applies to content items only
- Learners choose which content to complete, any items count toward the threshold
- Dynamic learner-facing copy shows the real numbers, for example "Complete 4 of 5 items, all 3 tasks required"
- Partial percentages round up to the nearest whole item
- Available across all Thrive product types
Why / benefits
- Pathways can finally offer real choice, a standard L&D pattern that previously needed spreadsheets or split pathways as a workaround
- Completion data becomes trustworthy, optional-content pathways stop sitting at 60 to 80% and never completing
- Compliance stays intact, mandatory tasks are always required alongside optional content
- Less admin overhead, no need to duplicate pathways to model optional content
How it works
- Admins tick a setting in the pathway editor and enter a percentage
- Learners see plain numbers rather than a percentage they have to calculate
- The progress bar and item counter still reflect every item in the pathway
- Completion is evaluated when a learner finishes a content item or task, not retrospectively
- If content is added to a live pathway, the required number of items recalculates against the same percentage
Use cases
- A leadership pathway with eight optional modules and three mandatory tasks lets learners pick any six modules but requires all three tasks.
- An onboarding pathway serving several roles lets new starters complete core tasks plus a proportion of role-relevant content.
People/personas
- L&D Leaders and Content Admins get a pathway design they have been asking for
- HR and People teams keep compliance intact while allowing elective learning
- Learners get credit for the learning they were actually asked to do
