Essentra is a global leader in the manufacture and distribution of small but essential industrial parts. Founded in 1955 in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, they supply everything from caps and plugs to cable-management parts – and employ 2,500 experts worldwide. Their business operates in 28 countries and 4 continents, managing 14 manufacturing sites, 24 distribution centres, and 33 sales and service locations.

Looking for a better way to connect

With a global footprint and teams spread across continents, Essentra needed a way to unify learning and internal communications throughout the business. Their ambition was to create a seamless experience for every employee, whether in a desk-based role or on the shop floor, and deliver learning as intuitively as the apps their people use every day.

They wanted a platform that was as easy to use as it was effective; something that mirrored the UX of apps like Netflix or Facebook. Just as importantly, they needed a way to support every individual’s growth and achieve their goal of building a learning culture that gives back to their people. Above all, it had to be mobile-friendly, and powerful enough to bring learning and comms into one hassle-free hub.

Built for the way people work today

For Essentra, Thrive wasn’t just a learning platform — it became a key internal channel for sharing updates, reinforcing messages, and driving collaboration. It has allowed them to combine learning content with key business communications, creating a learning experience that captures people’s attention – no matter where they’re based or what their job role is.

Thrive offered the flexibility Essentra needed to reach their people more effectively. With new tools like targeted learning pathways and smarter audience segmentation, they’ve also seen a 109% rise in new joiners engaging with key onboarding content since 2023. From video and email to SharePoint links, Thrive became the go-to space for delivering personalised, high-impact learning.

Collaboration across borders

Engagement has flourished. From likes and comments on content to global campaigns that invite people to share (like a photography challenge showcasing colleagues’ natural surroundings!) Thrive has helped build a more connected, collaborative culture across borders. And for their deskless workforce, the mobile app has made learning more accessible than ever.

With likes up 269% and comments by 250%, it’s clear that engagement is no longer just a loose part, but a key component of the culture. DEI and ESG campaigns have sparked even more conversation, with engagement up by over 100%. An employee survey showed a 3% rise in people agreeing Essentra supports their growth. Thrive, they say, is “collaborative”, “evolving”, and “visionary.”
