Inspired by the ultimate street party, Notting Hill Carnival, and its journey to promote inclusivity and multiculturalism, Rum Kitchen’s mission is simple: ‘BE MORE CARNIVAL!’ Today, they have four restaurants across London and Brighton that celebrate the bold signature flavours of the Caribbean, offering mouth-watering rum cocktails and jerk BBQ food, soundtracked by their brilliant resident DJs. At the heart of the experience: Rum Kitchen’s people.

A sensory slice of the islands

 To truly honour the heritage of their menu and take their guests on a sensory journey, they had to connect their teams. Thrive allowed them to give them seamless access to the content, recipes and training they need, on demand and in the flow of work.

Their old LMS wasn’t to their taste


Before moving to Thrive, Rum Kitchen was using Litmos LMS. But the platform wasn’t easily customisable, the user interface was clunky, and the close-knit customer support Rum Kitchen craved just wasn’t there. So they started to look at upgrading to a platform that was intuitive for their mostly Gen-Z learners; empowering them to create and share their own content and interact with each other, with the ability to customise learning pathways. It had to be accessible on any device, with support for a rich array of multimedia formats, and it had to provide personalised recommendations to give their people valuable skills and product knowledge, whether they’re in the kitchen, on the bar, front of house, or on the move.

By using our next-gen learning platform, Rum Kitchen made content like menus, recipes, allergen charts, knife skills, food safety and hygiene training instantly accessible to their people in one, digital place. In an industry that faces tough compliance measures and random hygiene spot checks, this is particularly important - and now, all of Rum Kitchen’s restaurants have been awarded a 5-star hygiene rating.

Continuous knowledge sharing

Rum Kitchen has also used Thrive to support their development paths named ‘The Rum Ages’, making sure their people could continue to progress and develop, even when they were physically apart through lockdown and limited opening hours. Thrive has also been used to connect The Rum Kitchen’s teams around the company’s story and brand values. Campaigns including Black History Month highlight what’s important to Rum Kitchen and its Caribbean culture, encouraging people to share their own ideas, content and inspiration in the process.
